Mayor Ragsdale and Sheriff Denver Kid meet Jasper Bloodshy and his English butler Mansfield on the outskirts of Bloodshy. Mansfield explains that Bloodshy is gravely ill and will die within two days, and that he has written a new will to include both of his sons. A sudden gust of wind blows Bloodshy into a gorge, leaving his death presumed and setting up a contested inheritance.

Back in Philadelphia, Eli Bloodshy, a Salvation Army missionary, receives a telegram informing him that his father has died and that he may still have a living father. He decides to travel to Bloodshy with two orphans, Roxanne and Marcus, to claim the inheritance. The news propels him toward a new life in the Wild West.

Eli's stagecoach is robbed by the Snead brothers, forcing him, Marcus, and Roxanne to abandon the coach. The outlaws mistake Eli for Billy because the twins are identical. They are left stranded on the road to Bloodshy.

The trio trudges toward Bloodshy by foot, and they are joined by Jenny Willingham, a teacher traveling to start a school there. Together they press on toward the town, forming a small makeshift family along the way.

Mansfield arrives in Bloodshy with Bloodshy's will to Sheriff Denver for delivery to Mayor Ragsdale, who will act as executor. The reading reveals a winner-takes-all contest—the Bloody Bloodshy Trail—that will decide who inherits the town, surrounding lands, and a fortune. The revelation seeds conflict that will drive the story forward.

Eli meets Billy during a tense stand-off in the saloon and soon learns they are identical twins. Ragsdale explains that the will's terms favor a clear winner, and Billy believes he will easily prevail. The discovery confirms that both brothers are in play for the inheritance.

The sheriff becomes involved in a dispute with Rattlesnake over his sister, sparking a series of confrontations around Bloodshy. The feud adds danger and uncertainty to Eli and Billy's plan. The tensions rise in the days that follow.

Outside Bloodshy, it is revealed that Jasper Bloodshy faked his own death to keep watch over the contest. Mansfield provides Jasper with updates on Eli's arrival and the twins' identity, keeping the true stakes hidden from most townspeople. The ploy sets the stage for later twists.

At a revival meeting the night before the race, Eli declares his intention to stay in Bloodshy and use the inheritance to build a church and school. The townsfolk warn him to leave for his own safety, arguing the race could be deadly. His resolve defines his purpose for remaining in Bloodshy.

The next day, the contest commences as a brutal obstacle course: operating a train engine, paddling whitewater, climbing a cliff, crossing a rope, and racing a wagon to the finish. Eli and Billy push through the dangerous course while fending off sabotage. The stakes are high as the town watches.

From a distance, Jasper and Mansfield spot the Sneads sabotaging Eli and suspect a mastermind behind the plot. They discover that Ragsdale has altered the will so that if no one wins, he inherits everything. The detection of manipulation heightens the peril for the brothers.

As the finish line nears, Eli and Billy realize Ragsdale's plan to kill them both to claim the fortune. They reconcile and, with Jasper's help, complete the race while exposing Ragsdale's scheme in a dramatic town chase and capture. The truth comes to light just as the winners are decided.
