Kira, 36, works at the Pulkovo Airport call centre and shares a cramped home with her younger sister Vera and Vera’s two daughters. Years earlier their mother expelled them and then vanished, leaving the family unsettled. When Kira finally learns her mother is dead, she must obtain a death certificate, claim an inheritance and consider moving out to start a new, independent life—though she clings to the hope that her mother will somehow return.
