At 88, Dimitra Koutsiabassakos lives alone in the remote village of Armatoliko, perched in the Pindos mountains on the ancient Acheloos River—named for the god who once fought Heracles for a lover’s favor. Her home lies in the floodplain that will become a lake when a dam is completed. The dam’s cement is supplied by a firm called “Heracles,” echoing the ancient rivalry. Grandsons Dimitris, Costas and Petros visit to film a documentary about her life and the changing landscape.
