Sara Davis Leah Pipes is a high school freshman with a natural talent for soccer who quickly rises to join her school’s varsity squad as a sophomore, under the hopeful eye of her father Gil Davis Scott Patterson, who dreams of guiding her toward the U.S. National Team as its youngest recruit. After a rough game where the critique centers on teamwork, Sara faces the sting of not being initially selected for the team again. She tests her social boundaries, rejoining a dance group through Tutti, though the spring performance clashes with her soccer schedule. A provocative moment in the cafeteria—dismissing a harsh critic by dumping a tray of food—shows her fiery resolve, even as the strain of expectations weighs on her. A student photographer, Josh Drew Tyler Bell, notices Sara, and they share a brief, charged conversation that hints at a budding connection. Tutti fills Sara in on Josh’s backstory—homeschooled and now a year ahead—and later he invites Sara to the ice cream parlor to shoot some photos in a special place. The day is hectic: she must juggle practice, a dance audition, and a bike crash on the way home, all of which heighten the sense that balance is a constant struggle.

Sara’s daily life becomes a delicate balance of high school, running, romance, sports, and parental expectations. Her mom suggests easing up to enjoy life more, warning that the path to the Olympics could mean moving away. Back at school, Tutti backs Sara up as she shares the Josh news, and Josh invites her to develop more photographs with him. In the darkroom, a kiss blooms, and Josh invites Sara to the Spring Fling dance, adding a new layer to an already intense schedule.

In the team’s semi-final, Sara’s squad wins, but the coach notes a lack of cohesion, with clear tension between Regina and Sara. Tutti’s playful text about Josh fuels envy in Regina, backfiring when Josh asks Regina to cut Sara some slack. Regina accuses Sara of complaining that he kisses badly, and Josh retreats, unsure how to navigate the growing rift.
