Green Lantern: First Flight

The Guardians of the Universe forge the Green Lantern battery to channel green power across the cosmos. They deliberately hide the most concentrated yellow energy, ensuring it cannot be used against them. This secret yellow element remains a lurking threat to the Corps.

On Kanjar Ro's ship, Abin Sur is mortally wounded during a confrontation. Before dying, he uses his ring to find a worthy successor and directs it toward Earth. The ring then searches for Hal Jordan to recruit him into the Green Lantern Corps.

Hal Jordan arrives at Oa to join the Green Lantern Corps and is placed under the supervision of Sinestro. He begins to learn the responsibilities and the Guardians' philosophy under the seasoned officer's eye. The recruitment marks his first step into the life of a Green Lantern.

Hal participates in a mission to capture Kanjar Ro but is knocked unconscious by Kanjar's energy staff. Sinestro arrives, kills Kanjar, and pins the deed on Hal, painting him as the culprit. The Guardians strip Hal of his power ring as punishment.

With Hal framed for Kanjar Ro's death, the Guardians strip him of his power ring. He waits aboard a ship, effectively sidelined from active duty. The Green Lantern Corps's trust in him has been shaken.

Sinestro uses his ring to temporarily animate Kanjar Ro's corpse, forcing it to reveal the location of the yellow element on Qward. The revelation shows Sinestro's willingness to bend the rules to pursue a weapon rivaling the Green Lantern battery. Hal is left in the dark while this treachery unfolds.

Hal speaks to Boodikka and Kilowog, arguing that Sinestro's methods threaten the Guardians' ideals. He urges them to look beyond surface appearances and question Sinestro's motives. The seed of doubt begins to germinate among the Lanterns.

Boodikka reveals her true allegiance and incapacitates Kilowog, enabling Sinestro to slip away. In a twist, Hal manipulates Boodikka into destroying Kanjar Ro's unstable energy staff, causing an explosion that kills her. The event exposes the fragility of trust within the corps.

On Qward, the Weaponers grant Sinestro the yellow ring and a yellow battery, equipping him with a weapon capable of overpowering the Green Lanterns. He begins to wield their power to dominate the ring-based balance. The path toward a new power dynamic begins here.

Wielding the yellow power, Sinestro lays waste to Oa, and the green battery is overwhelmed. The Green Lantern rings lose their power, causing the deaths of many Lanterns in space when the failure hits. Chaos erupts as the balance of power tilts toward Sinestro.

Hal Jordan recovers his ring moments after the catastrophe and finds a crack in the green element. He places the ring on the crack and absorbs its power, anchoring himself with renewed green energy. The shift marks a turning point in his struggle against Sinestro.

Imbued with green energy, Hal crushes the yellow battery between two moons, destroying it. The act restores a critical balance and begins to level the playing field against Sinestro's new power.

Hal engages Sinestro in a brutal hand-to-hand fight without constructs, pushing his limits in a bare fight. He can only rely on the last of his strength to keep Sinestro at bay. Kilowog arrives, saves Hal from a fatal fall, and crushes the yellow ring, ending Sinestro's threat at that moment.

With Oa rebuilt and the Green Lantern battery restored, the Guardians invite Hal to lead the Corps in reciting the Green Lantern oath. The ceremony cements his status as a beacon for the Corps. He then leaves for Earth to check in with Carol Ferris, joking about the long commute.
