Sinestro had secretly shared the yellow element's location with Kanjar Ro. When Hal was knocked unconscious during the mission, Sinestro killed Kanjar Ro himself and blamed Hal to remove the rookie who might uncover his treachery. This gave Sinestro time to pursue the yellow weapon without interference.

Foreshadowing: Sinestro's interrogation of Abin Sur's murder hints at his deeper motives.

The Guardians of the Universe forged the Green Lantern battery using the green element of will power. They discovered that yellow energy was the one part of the light spectrum that could resist green. To protect the Corps, they hid the most concentrated source of yellow energy far away, but this weakness remained.

Foreshadowing: The Guardians' decision to hide the yellow element establishes the fundamental vulnerability early in the film.

Boodikka was secretly loyal to Sinestro throughout. When Hal and Kilowog confronted Sinestro, Boodikka revealed her true allegiance and incapacitated Kilowog, allowing Sinestro to escape. Her betrayal was part of Sinestro's larger plan to obtain the yellow weapon.

Sinestro used his ring to animate Kanjar Ro's corpse, forcing it to reveal the location of the yellow element on Qward. He traveled there and the Weaponers of Qward granted him a yellow ring and battery, equipment capable of overpowering the Green Lanterns because yellow energy resists green.

Foreshadowing: Sinestro's secret probing of Abin Sur's murder was really about locating the yellow weapon.

Sinestro used the yellow battery to devastate Oa, and the yellow light overwhelmed the green battery. With the central power source compromised, all green rings across the cosmos went inert. Many Lanterns in space died from asphyxiation as their power drained away.

Foreshadowing: Sinestro's new yellow power was specifically designed to counter the Green Lanterns.

Hal recovered his ring moments after the catastrophe and found a crack in the green element, the central power source. He pressed his ring directly onto the crack, siphoning green energy anew. This gave him enough power to destroy the yellow battery and confront Sinestro.

Foreshadowing: The crack in the green element appears as a critical vulnerability during the attack on Oa.

With most of his green power spent destroying the yellow battery, Hal faced Sinestro in a brutal hand-to-hand fight without the aid of constructs. Using the last reserves of his energy, he knocked Sinestro down to Oa's surface. Kilowog then crushed the yellow ring, ending Sinestro's threat permanently.

Foreshadowing: The depletion of Hal's power creates the desperate final confrontation.

The Guardians believed Sinestro's false report that Hal had killed Kanjar Ro during the mission. Trusting their senior officer over the rookie, they punished Hal by stripping his ring and leaving him stranded. This haste without proper investigation allowed Sinestro's plan to proceed.

Foreshadowing: Sinestro's framing of Hal is immediately accepted by the Guardians due to his trusted status.

Sinestro believed the Green Lantern Corps should prevent crime by any means necessary, rather than reactively responding to threats like the Guardians advocated. This willingness to use any method, including betrayal and weapons of mass destruction, led him to seek the yellow power.

Foreshadowing: Hal notes early on that Sinestro's philosophy diverges from the Guardians' ideals.

After defeating Sinestro and helping rebuild Oa, the Guardians granted Hal the honor of leading the Corps in reciting the Green Lantern oath. This marked his full acceptance as a true protector of space and a hero worthy of the Corps.

Foreshadowing: Hal's journey from outsider to trusted Lantern culminates in this moment of recognition.
