Romanian director Mircea Daneliuc presents a bleak metaphor of a 1930s middle‑class gambler whose addiction mirrors national decay. After befriending an elderly lucky charm, he exploits and drives him to suicide. Haunted, he roams the dead man’s house, where unsettling visions accelerate his mental collapse, ending in a delusional finale.
