In the racially charged United Kingdom of the early 1970s, a group of black musicians united in South London, sharing a passion for rhythm and a desire for peace. Cymande, symbolized by the dove, blended jazz, funk, soul, and Caribbean influences to create a distinctive sound. While achieving success in the United States, they encountered indifference in Britain, leading to disillusionment and disbandment. Their pioneering music continued to inspire subsequent generations of artists, from Soul II Soul and De La Soul to MC Solaar and The Fugees, ultimately prompting the band's reunion after four decades.
