Shot in Florence, the film draws on Leonardo da Vinci’s notebooks and Paul Valéry’s essay on his creative process, linking Renaissance spatial treatment with cinema. It marks a pivotal shift for the filmmaker, who uses rapid pans and upward tilts along the city’s façades, often inserting brief reflections of his own face, emphasizing an investigative, present‑time gaze.
