Four Moods is a Chinese anthology made by leading directors to aid Li Han‑hsiang’s finances. King Hu’s ‘Anger’ adapts the Peking opera San Cha Kou, staging an inn clash of schemers and vagabonds. Li’s ‘Happiness’, from Liaozhai tales, follows a kind ghost’s reprieve. Pai Ching‑Jui’s ‘Joy’ and Lee Hsing’s ‘Sadness’ explore mortal encounters with ghosts.
