A small‑time thief makes a living stealing from the wealthy at speakeasies, counting on their desire to avoid scandal to escape punishment. He is eventually caught and sentenced to Sing Sing. After earning good‑behavior credit, he receives an emergency furlough to save his daughter from her neglectful mother, but his release is conditioned on a promise not to kill his wife while he is out.
