The film is set almost entirely inside the Credit International Bank, a modern urban bank with a fortified vault and tense upstairs areas. The lobby, offices, and corridors become a pressure cooker as the chaos unfolds, while a kitchen serves as a makeshift hostage room. The story concludes with the criminals fleeing toward Cancún, Mexico.

Kaitlin's hypoglycemic bank manager, Mr. Blythe, is revealed to be Vicellous Drum in disguise, the mastermind behind the entire operation and the #1 most wanted villain. This twist ties together the web of deception that has been building throughout the film, showing how the criminals manipulated everyone from within the bank itself.

Earlier scenes show Mr. Blythe's unusual presence during the crisis, which gains significance once his true identity is revealed.

Kaitlin Nest, the bank teller, is actually Alexis Black, the FBI's #3 most wanted bank robber. She uses charm and wit to mask her true identity while orchestrating parts of the heist. By the film's end, she reveals her alias to Tripp and teams up with him to plan a nonlethal bank robbery, forming a romantic partnership.

Tripp Kennedy is an ordinary customer who inadvertently triggers the bank robbery by provoking the criminals. His quick-thinking nature and morally ambiguous actions make him a catalyst for the chaos. He forms a complicated bond with Kaitlin and ultimately partners with her in a dramatic, non-lethal heist plan.

Vicellous Drum is the mastermind behind the entire operation, the #1 most wanted villain among the criminals. He manipulates everyone to his own end, operating from within the bank by disguising himself as Mr. Blythe, the bank manager. His plan culminates in a fatal confrontation and serves as the driving force of the film's layered mystery.

Drum's presence is felt throughout as the unseen orchestrator before his true identity is uncovered.

Flypaper is a crime comedy that blends multiple tones. While the premise involves a tense hostage situation with multiple criminal factions and violent deaths, the film is punctuated by dark humor from the inept criminals and a developing romance between Tripp and Kaitlin. This prevents the movie from being purely bleak, creating a unique mix of suspense and comedy.

The ending is mixed: Tripp and Kaitlin form a happy romantic partnership as new criminal partners planning nonlethal heists.
