Set in 1918 during the First World War, young pilot Herbillon (Jean‑Pierre Aumont) begins a clandestine affair with the married Helene (Annabella) just before he is posted to a front‑line squadron. He soon realizes that Helene is the wife of his fellow aviator Maury (Charles Vanel), creating a painful conflict of loyalty and love.
