While shooting a documentary on Taiwan’s religious and historic statues, director Meng and cameraman Jianxian travel the island, their dialogue often slipping into commentary on Taiwan’s political landscape. Meanwhile, Meng’s girlfriend Ning, who starts as a location scout on a low‑budget commercial film and later becomes an actress, finds herself exploited by the production and her career aspirations stalled, while her relationship with Meng slowly deteriorates.
