Heinz, a German sniper perched in a tree, watches his own unit across the battlefield. After he dozes off, his comrades have vanished, leaving him alone to face an advancing enemy assault. As the conflict unfolds, vivid flashbacks reveal his brutal wartime deeds and his descent from a soldier into a sadistic murderer and rapist.
