Pete, one of Aurelio's men, brutalizes Jack, bludgeoning him in the head and then burning him alive with a blowtorch. The murder is witnessed by Claude, who returns to the house, and by Charles, who was sleeping nearby. The crime shakes Eureka to its core.

Claude is arrested for Jack's murder, but after witnesses testify, including Tracy, he is acquitted due to lack of conclusive evidence. The courtroom drama exposes loyalties and fear, yet the truth remains elusive. The verdict leaves many unsettled and the island divided.
