Cantinflas is a porter who, while still in school, earns money drafting letters and speeches on a typewriter. He falls for his wheelchair‑bound neighbor Silvia Pinal, but a young soldier also loves her. Determined to help, Cantinflas becomes a Cyrano, writing love letters for the soldier and a horse‑race win will pay for the operation to let her walk.
