Two decades pass. King Gareth nears death and Walter remains missing. Gareth dies, but Drago survives and is bonded to someone else, while his heart links to Edric, the strong twin who will serve as sheriff under Earl Robert Cole. The realm braces for a contested succession.

Vikings invade, and Edric leads a defensive stand. The invaders’ leader turns out to be Mehgan, using her power to control the Heartfire. Drago attempts to explain the Heartfire to the twins, hinting at a path to true governance.

Mehgan infiltrates the camp at night and drains the Heartfire from Drago while he sleeps, revealing her control over the power. The Vikings gain the upper hand, and Edric, overwhelmed, surrenders. Mehgan banishes Edric, seizing control and consolidating power.

Edric flees to the realm of Earl Robert Cole, hoping for aid, but Robert betrays him to the Vikings and Edric is taken aboard a boat to be sold into slavery. The kingdom’s fate tilts toward Mehgan’s ascendancy as the Twins' futures become more uncertain.

Mehgan survives a brutal storm and drifts to Daneland, where her powers catch the attention of Thorgrim’s agents. In the meantime, she begins to modernize women's rights in the kingdom as a counterweight to patriarchal rule. Thorgrim’s attention marks a new chapter in northern politics.

Locals free Edric from captivity and Drago rescues him, reigniting their fellowship. They reconcile as Drago reveals he is dying without the Heartfire, prompting a desperate plan to resecure the power. The two vow to set things right for Gareth’s line.

With the theatre troupe’s aid, Edric and Mehgan sneak into the castle, aiming to deny Thorgrim control of the Heartfire. Sable, Thorgrim’s ally, plots to kill Mehgan, while Thorgrim himself corners the Heartfire. The twins’ alliance strains under the heavier external threat.

Drago stages a confrontation that forces the twins to confront Walter’s death; Edric admits he killed Gareth in a prior fight and Mehgan took the blame to spare him. The truth sets them on a path to reconciliation. Edric defeats Thorgrim, who is killed, and the Vikings are driven back.

Edric uses the Heartfire to heal Mehgan, sealing their bond of dragonhearts and removing their scales and powers. With Gareth’s family whole again, Drago dies peacefully and ascends as a new star in the Draco’s tail, proclaiming that the twins will rule together. The realm enters a fragile but hopeful era.
