In the summer of 1978, four friends from Cleveland, Ohio, Hawk, Lex, Trip, and Jam, embrace their passion for rock 'n' roll. They share a common dream of attending a KISS concert, setting the stage for their adventurous summer.

Jam's conservative mother discovers the concert tickets and promptly destroys them, sending Jam off to a strict Catholic boarding school. This act of turmoil ignites the boys' determination to get their friend back and see their favorite band.

Trip manages to secure a pair of tickets and backstage passes through a radio contest. The excitement turns to panic as the boys scramble to rescue Jam from Father Phillip McNulty's strict grasp.

To rescue Jam, the friends concoct a bizarre plan involving hallucinogenic mushrooms and a pizza delivery disguise. Their unexpected scheme successfully stuns Father McNulty, allowing them to escape in Lex's mother's Volvo.

During their road trip, the boys cross paths with disco fans Kenny and Bobby. A humorous conflict escalates when Trip throws pizza at their windshield, resulting in a lively confrontation.

Christine, Kenny's girlfriend, impulsively steals the boys' vehicle, leaving them stranded. The shocking betrayal adds to the chaos of their already frantic quest for the concert.

Lex and Jam, now devoid of concert tickets, concoct a story about being mugged. Their initial lie is soon validated when Trip’s resourcefulness helps clear up the confusion with event security.
