Emma, a young author, meets Erik, editor, and they begin an affair that leads Erik to leave his wife. Emma also dates dramatist Stefan, whose play Erik’s firm publishes; Stefan overdoses and is rushed to the hospital where Erik’s wife Ann, a doctor, works. Over ten years their lives intertwine, ending in the same loneliness they began with.
