Terrifying combat footage captures the barren, rock‑strewn desert where civilians were scarce. Narrated by J. L. Hodson, who declares, “If war is to be fought, let it begin here,” the film chronicles the Allied drive to expel German and Italian forces from North Africa, focusing on the pivotal battles of El Alamein and including staged re‑enactments. It won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 1944.
