Depravity

At the end of Depravity, the characters find themselves in a deadly confrontation that reveals the true depths of their moral corruption. Aria, who has orchestrated much of the chaos, ultimately reveals her true intentions. She had been planning to steal priceless artworks stored in Carl’s apartment, which were hidden inside the floorboards, and the money from her previous criminal activities. During the climax, Alex kills Tovia and Claude, the sadistic art thieves, in a desperate attempt to survive and protect Aria. However, his greed and violence lead to his own downfall when he strangles Aria in a moment of panic, aiming to force her to reveal the location of the artworks. In an ironic twist, Aria tricks him by pushing him into the laundry chute, where he falls to his death along with the stolen art and cash, as the apartment burns down around them. The fire consumes everything, erasing any trace of their crimes and leaving Aria free to reinvent herself. She later reappears as a successful museum curator, having sold or hidden the stolen artworks and escaped any consequences. The ending suggests that, beneath the surface of the characters’ brutal actions, the story is really about the corrupting influence of greed, trauma, and moral decay, with justice being ultimately elusive and the moral boundaries blurred beyond recognition. The fire and Aria’s new identity symbolize how corruption can survive and thrive behind the facade of respectable life, leaving viewers with a bleak reflection on human depravity and the corrupting power of unchecked desires.
