The tale spans two eras: Puang's fateful encounter in 1854, when a wounded soldier is bound to a deadly immortal ghoul, and a 1975 hunt where Yak and allies confront the same ghoul centuries later. The 19th-century backstory explains the ghoul's lingering influence, while the 1970s segments focus on modern-day exorcism of the curse. Amulets, rituals, and ancestral memory link the periods.

The story unfolds across the haunted Dong Khomot Forest, where a sacred salt lick and a dilapidated hut near a swamp anchor the journey. Visitors and villagers face a host of malevolent beings in the woods, while a hotel scene later shifts the action to a family wedding. The forest and hotel shape the contrasting settings of isolation and reunion that drive the drama.

Puang's immortal bond with the ghoul and the amulet that keeps him alive for over a century are central to the tension. The tongue-shifted incantation and reanimation motifs show how the ghost preserves itself through a host. The final freeing of the victims breaks the ghoul's century-long survival.

Yak trains his hatred into a focused mission to avenge Yam and end the ghoul's reign. The pursuit through Dong Khomot pits him against supernatural foes and forces him to confront personal loss. The battle culminates in a decisive act that shatters the ghoul's control.
