The fragile feelings of a young couple with their four‑year‑old daughter surface after the father's night of exams. Hungover, he tries to be patient as she roams the house, unaware of trouble. When she dies from a fever, the student and his photographer wife mourn together, finding solace. Later, visits from other children revive the mother's pain, which eases only after the birth of a son.
