Set in pre‑Civil War Lawrence, Kansas, this drama follows Texan Bob Seton, who falls for Mary McCloud as the town debates remaining slave‑free. He runs for marshal against schoolteacher William Cantrell, whose respectable façade masks ruthless ambition. After losing, Cantrell leads Confederate‑uniformed raiders terrorizing settlers, forcing Seton and the townspeople into a final showdown.
