Produced for TV in 1961 but never aired, it uses cinema‑verité techniques to examine Palermo’s Cortile Cascino slum. It shows poverty, early death, and a clash between an absent church and a Mafia that runs a slaughterhouse. Women are the force, underscored by a malnourished infant’s burial; residents’ recorded, translated comments form the soundtrack.
