A true, astonishing account of how King Leopold II of Belgium turned the Congo into his private colony from 1885 to 1908. Under his rule the region became a brutal gulag-style labor camp. While claiming to protect Africans from Arab slave‑traders, Leopold instead built a terror‑driven empire to harvest rubber. It caused massive death and suffering.
