Adachi’s follow‑up to Bowl depicts a woman with an abnormal sexual condition, which many view as a controversial allegory for the leftist student movement’s stalemate after massive protests failed to overturn the Japan‑US Security Treaty. The ritualistic solemnity of the charged sexual scenes creates a dreamlike atmosphere; Adachi later stressed the work is open‑ended and not meant to deliver a specific political message.
