Eight years earlier, Tom's wife was murdered during a home invasion, an event Rose witnessed. He now runs his own crime-scene cleaning service to support them and try to put the past behind him. His work requires discretion and a willingness to confront grim scenes that haunt him.

Tom receives an assignment from Detective Jones to clean the scene of a wealthy home. He gains entry using a key hidden under a potted plant and inventories the room before starting the cleanup. He uses his custom chemical mix to erase blood and tissue from surfaces.

The next morning Tom discovers he has kept the key and returns it to the house. Ann Norcut, the homeowner, seems unaware of Tom's visit, and Tom suspects the cleaning order was misaddressed. The two grow suspicious as inconsistencies mount.

Tom enlists his old partner Eddie Lorenzo and learns that John is missing, with Eddie suspecting foul play. The timing aligns with John’s planned grand jury testimony against the corrupt police commissioner Vaughn. The search uncovers a dangerous link between the missing man and the crooked network.

The next day Ann visits Tom at his office and asks directly about her husband. Tom refuses to provide a clear answer, keeping his distance from the case and the truth. The exchange deepens the tension between them.

Eddie finds Tom cleaning a scene in a hotel room and reports that the forensic team found no DNA, only traces of professional cleaning chemicals. Tom admits he has not gone to the police, fearing how far Vaughn's corruption goes. The case becomes personal as he weighs loyalty against the truth.

Tom learns from Ann that John kept a ledger listing badge numbers of corrupt officers on Vaughn's payroll, including Tom's own. He shares this with Eddie, who urges destroying the document to avoid giving Vaughn motive for murder. The ledger becomes a focal point that could topple the corrupt network.

Tom takes Ann to Miguel's home for safety and to meet his family, sharing a dinner with them. Ann's PTSD worsens as her past entangles with the present danger. The moment deepens Tom's resolve to protect her, even as secrets simmer.

Ann is asked to visit the morgue and identifies John's remains, while the coroner reveals that John had a vasectomy years earlier, implying Ann's earlier pregnancy wasn't his. Tom deduces that Ann had an affair and that the porch key belonged to her boyfriend. The chain of deception tightens around everyone involved.

Tom reveals to Eddie that he suspects Eddie is Ann's lover. Eddie admits that he killed John, believing Ann had miscarried and that John had forced her to have an abortion. This admission confirms the depth of betrayal and raises the stakes of any confrontation.

Tom decides to turn Eddie over to Vargas, but Eddie arrives at Tom's home with Rose. A tense standoff ends when Eddie shoots at Tom, but Rose runs to Tom's sidearm and shoots Eddie in the head, killing him. Vargas arrives to take the ledger, while Miguel cleans the final traces of the crime.

Vargas thanks Tom and vows to burn the ledger, dismantling part of Vaughn's network. Miguel completes the cleanup, leaving Tom to reflect on the cost of truth and his duty to protect Rose. The case closes with a fragile sense of justice and a renewed commitment to his family.
