The soldiers complete their tasks and swim toward the waiting submarine. A sniper on the submarine eliminates almost all of them, and only Lee Jin-Pyo survives to swim back to South Korea. The brutal setback deepens Jin-Pyo's vendetta and fuels his resolve for revenge.

Back in South Korea, Jin-Pyo goes to Park Moo-Yul's home and abducts Moo-Yul's baby while Moo-Yul's wife hangs clothes outside. He takes the child and flees to Thailand, beginning a new life under his own conditions while plotting revenge.

In Thailand, Jin-Pyo raises the baby as Yun-Seong and trains him into an elite soldier, while running a jungle camp that also involves illicit narcotics to sustain their operations. The brutal upbringing shapes Yun-Seong into a formidable instrument for the coming revenge.

As a young adult, Yun-Seong travels to a Thai village and helps a Korean man, Bae Sik-Joong, who is being shaken down by Thai gang members. Sik-Joong, a skilled cook, prepares meals for Yun-Seong and Jin-Pyo. Yun-Seong also discovers a photo of Kim Na-Na and places it beside his bed, forming an emotional attachment to the unknown woman.

The photo of Kim Na-Na becomes a focal point for Yun-Seong, fueling his training under Jin-Pyo's stern discipline. The image hints at a future connection with the woman back in Korea, complicating his loyalty and deepening the personal stakes of the coming conflict.

During a dangerous moment, Jin-Pyo loses a foot while saving Yun-Seong from a landmine. While recovering, he recounts the death of his birth father at the hands of his own government and reaffirms his vow to avenge him and his fallen comrade. The injury strengthens the resolve that anchors the revenge plan.
