Captain Blood

In the early 17th century France, Marie de' Medici and Concini tighten their grip on state affairs as Louis XIII comes of age. Concini uses terror and treachery to weaken the nobility, with attacks spreading through the southwestern provinces.

High-ranking lords plot to overthrow Concini and install Duke Charles of Angoulême on the throne. François de Capestang emerges as a brave defender of justice, and Gisèle d'Angoulême carries a debt of gratitude to him for saving his life in battle.

François sets out for Paris to present his province's grievances to the king. Along the way, he befriends Cogolin, a street performer who becomes a trusted confidant.

In Paris, François confronts Concini but refuses to join his corrupt schemes. He chooses to act as a spy, gathering crucial information for the conspirators.

Cogolin infiltrates the royal court, enabling François to learn Gisèle's whereabouts and plan a rescue.

With Gisèle's location known, François begins a mission to rescue her from captivity, aided by Cogolin's inside access.

During the upheaval, François foils an assassination attempt on Louis XIII, saving the king and earning his trust and support.

Béatrice de Beaufort switches sides after her father's death and warns François and the conspirators of impending danger. She abandons Concini's faction and arms the conspirators with timely intelligence.

At Saint-Leu castle, François and his allies clash with Concini's forces in a climactic battle. The king's timely arrival seals their victory and shifts the balance of power.

With the conflict resolved, former rivals reconcile. François is poised to marry Gisèle, and Cogolin has a moment to declare his love.

Concini falls, and Louis XIII's reign is proclaimed, ushering in a new era of unity and stability for the kingdom.
