Nan Feng, Fan Bingbing is a fiery singer who thrives on the edge of nightlife. During a pub performance, a hasty swing of a loud speaker sends a blow to a man’s crotch and instantly creates friction with the pub owner. After the show, she, along with her friends Ding Bo Chen Bolin and Fatso Fei Long, pull off a simple roadside meal to unwind and process the tension that followed the incident.

The following day, Fatso finds himself targeted by a group of teenagers, and Nan Feng steps in with a bold, reckless resolve. She confronts the troublemakers, smashing a bottle over a bully’s head and forcing another girl to kiss her. The moment exposes the trio’s impulsive, reckless streak and their hunger for connection in a world that often ignores them. As their day-to-day chaos continues, they decide to seek shelter with Teacher Chang, a mother figure who has recently lost her son. The already strained balance of their lives is tested further when the man hurt by Nan Feng demands compensation. To pay him back, they swipe money from Miss Chang and replace it with paper money meant for burning in ancestral rituals, a small act that underscores the tension between desperation and superstition.

To earn money for the debt, they repair the battered car that was part of the day Teacher Chang’s son died, during a trip intended for a birthday celebration with his girlfriend. On a detour through a ruined district, they pause at a shattered building that once housed a Buddha temple, and a flashback reveals the cataclysm of the 2008 Sichuan earthquake. A monk helps them capture a moment in the temple’s ruins, and they take a photograph together, a quiet reminder of the fragility of life in the wake of disaster.

As time passes, Nan Feng’s jealousy begins to simmer. She catches Ding Bo kissing another girl at a night club, and the sting of betrayal laces their bond with doubt. Seeking solace, she returns to Teacher Chang, who becomes a steady anchor in their stormy lives. By day, the three friends accompany Teacher Chang to the crumbled Buddha temple, where they work to repair the space and hang a bell that rings softly through the ruin. In a late-evening exchange, the monk explains that the true temple lies in the body and memory of those who carry it, not in stone or shrine. This revelation prompts a moment of reckoning for the group.

Teacher Chang, speaking with quiet certainty, declares that she has done all she can and carries no regrets. Her faith in Nan Feng and her companions reaches a tender point of closure as she watches them slowly straighten their lives. The next morning, Nan Feng and her two friends search for Teacher Chang, only to find her standing at a distant cliff, hours after a train roars by. When Nan Feng looks up, the cliff is empty—Teacher Chang has vanished. The trio believes she has leapt to reunite with her husband and son, choosing to disappear into memory rather than endure another day of absence.

With Teacher Chang gone, Fatso and Ding Bo—now dating—join Nan Feng on a train ride home. They begin to sense that their youth is slipping away, that the days of reckless freedom are thinning, and that adulthood is quietly catching up with them. The experience leaves Nan Feng with a lingering echo of Teacher Chang’s words: > Loneliness is not forever, but being together is, and perhaps that is how they must learn to navigate a future that will demand patience, resilience, and a willingness to stay close to one another.
