Mon, the eldest daughter of a poor rural family, comes home from Tokyo pregnant after an affair with college student Kobata. The scandal jeopardizes her younger sister San’s chances of marriage, putting the family’s finances at risk. Their irritable brother Inokichi assumes the role of disciplinarian, leading to harsh consequences.
