Colonel Polidoro, the political chief of Passaroca, launches an adult‑literacy course to help his candidate win the upcoming city‑hall election. He journeys to Rio to find a qualified teacher, but his self‑righteous façade falls apart when he gets caught up in Carnival, meets a stunning dancer and invites her to his farm. Drunk, he mixes up the addresses, sending the dancer instead of the teacher to Passaroca, igniting a cascade of comic confusion.
