The climax of Birthrite erupts in the house that Wren inherited, where the legacy of a centuries‑old witch coven finally confronts the couple. After weeks of terrifying visions and a miscarriage that doctors dismiss as a phantom pregnancy, Wren discovers that the blood‑shed ritual of her aunt Birgit—once performed to bind a demon to a barren lineage—has left her with a birthright that the demon still demands. When an intruder in a yellow‑antlered mask forces Wren toward a premature birth, Maya is the only one who still believes her.
In the final showdown Maya grabs the gun left by their friend Paul and shoots the masked figure. The mask falls away to reveal Magnus Brewer, the attorney who handled Birgit’s estate, and who is in fact a servant of the demon. Around them cultists chant and perform the old rite, but their presence does nothing to stop the ritual. The town‑doctor, hoping to end the curse by offering Wren’s unborn child, is killed the moment she attempts the sacrifice, underscoring that the demon will not be bargained with.
With the masked man dead, Wren realizes the only way to protect the baby is to become the vessel the demon seeks. She dons the antler mask herself, declaring that she will take the role of the next demon so that Maya and the child can escape. The film closes on that unsettling image—Wren, now the embodiment of the curse, watching Maya flee with their son—leaving the audience with the stark notion that the inheritance she received has turned into a fate she must bear alone.
