Malcolm Turner, portrayed by Martin Lawrence, finds himself in an unusual position as he takes on a desk job in public relations with the FBI. His motivation? He desires to be there for his new wife, Sherry Pierce, as they prepare for the arrival of their baby boy. However, tragedy strikes when Malcolm learns about the death of his old friend, Doug Hudson, during a dangerous undercover mission in Orange County, California.

As Malcolm grapples with the loss, FBI agent Kevin Keneally, played by Zachary Levi, is closely monitoring a retired U.S. Army intelligence officer named Tom Fuller, acted by Mark Moses. Fuller’s dangerous work involves creating a computer worm capable of breaching the U.S. government databases. Shaken by his friend’s fate, Malcolm approaches FBI chief Crawford, hoping to join the investigation, but is met with resistance, being advised to focus on safety protocols instead.

In a clever turn of events, Malcolm discovers the FBI’s plan to send an agent disguised as a nanny to infiltrate Fuller’s household. Under the guise of attending a safety conference in Phoenix, Malcolm dons the “Big Momma” costume once again and heads to Orange County. As “Mrs. Fuller,” Malcolm, now in his comedic persona, confronts several candidates for the nanny position, quickly eliminating them with his sharp wit. He introduces himself to the Fuller children—Molly, Carrie, and Andrew—and despite initial setbacks, wins their affection and becomes an integral part of their lives.

With his undercover role, Big Momma takes on various activities, from spa days with Mrs. Fuller to beach outings and bingo nights. However, danger looms when Big Momma learns of a nightclub meeting that puts Molly at risk. Rushing to her aid, Big Momma discovers they have been kidnapped, but with quick thinking and a hidden switchblade, they free themselves.

On the edge of a waterfront, they witness Tom handing over sensitive information to a shady character, jeopardizing national security. In a dramatic sequence, Big Momma commandeers a jet ski to confront the gangsters, resulting in a wild escape that leads to a confrontation with the FBI. Despite the chaos, Malcolm allows Tom to go free, citing the threats against his family.

As the story unfolds, Big Momma makes a grand appearance at a cheerleading championship, where, stepping in for an injured performer, he leads the team to victory. In a heartfelt farewell, he leaves the family with a letter, hinting that his adventures are far from over and they should be ready for his return someday.
