After her fiancé is killed, Mary Rutledge travels east to San Francisco in the 1850s and takes a job spinning the roulette wheel at Luis Chamalis’s rowdy gambling hall, the Bella Donna. There she meets miner Jim Carmichael, falls for him, and wins his gold dust on the wheel. Determined, Mary pursues Jim while Chamalis, jealous and dangerous, sets out to eliminate him.
