Set in the bustling Bab El‑Oued district of Algiers in 1989, months after the riots, the film follows night‑shift baker Boualem, who removes a loudspeaker installed on his roof that continuously broadcasts the imam’s sermons and keeps him awake. His act is seized upon by local Islamists as an excuse to assert control over the neighbourhood.
