Commissioned by Algiers to boost tourism, Mohamed Zinet’s Tahia ya Didou fuses documentary and fiction into a poetic, acerbic portrait of the city. The camera roams ports, markets, streets and cafés, capturing everyday people who become recurring characters. A French tourist couple wanders the city; the husband, a former Algerian‑war soldier, voices colonial prejudices while his wife repeats clichés. Their stroll is shattered when he recognizes a blind man he once tortured. Interludes feature poet Momo reciting elegies for Algiers.
