In the Aztec empire, young Yohualli Coatl suffers the murder of his father at the hands of Spanish conquistadors. Determined to alert King Moctezuma and High Priest Yoka of the impending danger, he escapes to Tenochtitlán. There he trains in the temple of the bat god Tzinacan under his mentor, learning to craft equipment and hone his abilities to confront the threat.

Juan Meza-León's animated film relocates Batman's defining elements to sixteenth-century Tenochtitlan. Yohualli Coatl replaces Bruce Wayne as the privileged son whose father's murder creates a vow; the temple of bat god Tzinacan replaces the cave; indigenous knowledge and captured Spanish technology become his equipment; and historical figures are recombined with versions of Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Joker, and Two-Face. None of the Golden Age stories supplies the conquest plot or Yohualli. This collection is linked only as the source of the tragic vigilante identity and recurring character patterns the film deliberately reimagines.
