People’s hero Anapu extracts water from a rock, befriends villagers, baptizes them, and delivers the water to Mary Magdalene. He consoles the oppressed, brokers peace between warring brothers, raises the dead and cleans men and women by licking them. As he wanders the village, Anapu mingles with locals, discusses their problems, future dangers and their lack of unity, while the community breaks into ethnic song and dance. He also tracks a fascist military officer and his girlfriend.
