Joachim, a 25-year-old battling heroin addiction, hides his struggles behind a charming smile. Haunted by abuse and loneliness, he's on the edge of a breakdown when his ex-girlfriend, Maria, calls him from jail. She asks him to care for their 5-year-old son, Lukas, whom Joachim hasn't seen since his birth. Initially agreeing to a short-term arrangement, Joachim unexpectedly finds himself wanting to keep Lukas, yearning for a chance to become a responsible, sober man and a father.
