Arthur the King

In 2014, Michael Light assembles an adventure racing team with high hopes of triumph. However, their journey begins on a tumultuous note as the team faces a setback during their very first day of training in the vibrant landscapes of Costa Rica.

The team confronts frustration when their leader, Michael, makes a poor decision to kayak against the tide. This leads to tensions within the group, especially from team member Leo, who feels disregarded and vocalizes his discontent effectively.

Fast forward to 2018, Michael feels a strong urge to reclaim his passion for adventure racing after a three-year hiatus. Compelled to return, he begins assembling a new team, aiming to finally clinch victory in competitive racing.

Michael recruits Olivia, a skilled climber, and Chik, an older athlete recovering from a knee injury. Meanwhile, his sponsor insists on including Leo, now a social media sensation, creating tension due to their tumultuous history.

The newly formed team departs from the USA, traveling to the Dominican Republic for a challenging five-day race. They are determined to face the mountainous jungle terrain despite the underlying tensions from the past.

During the second day of the race, Michael offers meatballs to a stray dog at a transition camp, showcasing a moment of kindness. The gesture does not go unnoticed, as the stray dog later reappears in the dense jungle, following the team.

During a treacherous night trek, Arthur, the stray dog they later adopt, saves Leo and the entire team from an imminent cliff fall. This act cements their bond, leading the team to adopt him as a member.

As the competition heats up with the team leading the race, they face a heart-wrenching choice. They realize they must leave Arthur behind while kayaking through the sea, but their love for the dog compels them to turn back and rescue him.

The decision to rescue Arthur costs them valuable time during the race, ultimately resulting in a second-place finish. Despite the setback, the team finds solace in their strong bond with the beloved dog.

Upon returning from the race, Arthur collapses, prompting a visit to the veterinarian. The vet diagnoses him with a severe parasitic infection and suggests euthanasia, a recommendation that Michael vehemently refuses.

Michael is determined to save Arthur, managing to bring him back to the USA for treatment. With proper medical attention, Arthur begins his journey toward recovery, symbolizing hope and resilience.

Eighteen months later, the film concludes with a poignant scene that showcases the unbreakable bond between Michael and Arthur. They are seen running together on a scenic ridge, celebrating their victory of love and companionship over adversity.
