In London, Bulldog Drummond and his ally Algy Longworth Reginald Denny are gearing up for Bulldog's wedding to his fiancée, Phyllis Clavering Heather Angel. When they are summoned to the house of Richard Gannett Leonard Mudie, an eccentric inventor who has built a prototype electric “death-ray” device with the potential to revolutionize warfare, they discover him dead after he utters, “Look out for The Stinger!” The pair report the murder to Scotland Yard, but a dock-yard knife-fight soon makes Bulldog a prime suspect. He is released for lack of evidence and later uncovers that a loaned stingray is missing from the botanical gardens.

> Look out for The Stinger!

The Stinger begins to menace Bulldog with a threatening note, and the investigators realize the death ray's power is centered around places with flickering lights. Bulldog, Algy, and Tenny E. E. Clive find themselves framed when they are discovered near the machine's targets, which can be as far as a quarter of a mile away. The pursuit leads aboard a cruise ship, where Bulldog spots Phyllis departing under the impression that Bulldog has jilted her, and where he also spots The Stinger, the spy Rolf Alferson George Zucco.

Back at Scotland Yard, Bulldog reports in, and Phyllis grows suspicious after receiving a fake letter from Alferson. She and Bulldog reconcile and join forces to thwart Alferson's plan. Algy and Tenny are captured while trying to derail the sale of the device to a foreign power. In the tense final confrontation on the ship, Bulldog intervenes as the deal goes down, a fight ensues, and the authorities arrive to arrest Alferson and his gang.
