Set in 1917 amid the First World War, Luxembourg native Julien avoids conscription by studying piano in Paris. When his friend Jacques—once a fellow musician, now a fighter pilot—invites him to stay at the vacant family home in Bray, a stoic, beautiful housekeeper welcomes him. As Jacques is delayed, Julien passes the time recalling their pre‑war days together and Jacques’s lover, Odile.
