In the final moments of “Antlers,” we see Julia successfully confront and kill the Wendigo spirit by ripping out its heart, which was its source of power, while it was feasting on Kenny Glass’s corpse. However, her victory comes with a heavy cost. She discovers that Aiden, Frank’s son, is also possessed by the same malevolent spirit, and in a desperate attempt to save him, she stabs his heart as well. This tragic decision results in Aiden’s death, leaving Lucas as the only survivor of the horror. Yet, the danger isn’t fully over. Paul, the sheriff, who had been sickened by black bile earlier in the film, reveals that he too might be infected with the Wendigo spirit. Despite Julia’s refusal to see the warning signs, Paul begins to show symptoms of infection and becomes increasingly unstable. The film ends on an ominous note, suggesting that although the Wendigo’s physical threat has been defeated, the malevolent spirit might still persist within their community, especially in Lucas, who is left with deep trauma and unresolved fears. Julia, in her love and hesitation, chooses to protect Lucas at the cost of potentially unleashing the curse once again, while Paul’s declining health hints that the cycle of horror might not be over. The ending leaves viewers with a chilling reminder of the cost of human greed and the dangers of awakening ancient spirits buried in the earth, warning us that the true horror might simply be delayed, lurking beneath the surface and waiting for another opportunity to unleash chaos.
