Anne Shirley, a freckle‑spotted red‑haired orphan, stays cheerful despite her early loss. At eleven she is adopted by farmer Matthew and his sister Marilla Cuthbert, who had intended to bring home a boy for Green Gables. Adjusting to farm life, Anne confronts hardships, makes friends, and blossoms into a confident, independent woman.
