All the Freckles in the World

In 1994, 13-year-old José Miguel relocates to Mexico City, eager to embrace a new school life amidst the excitement of the World Cup frenzy. Here, he quickly develops feelings for Cristina [Loreto Peralta], the girl of his dreams. However, to win her affection, he must first navigate the challenges posed by Kenji Matarazzo [Luis de La Rosa], her current boyfriend.

To express his admiration, José decides to bake a birthday cake for Cristina. Unfortunately, his plans go awry when his father unexpectedly devours the cake the day before the big surprise. In a gesture of support, José’s mother gives him some money to buy a different treat from the bakery. At school, he presents her with the gift, marking the beginning of their friendship.

Later, as he walks home with Liliana [Andrea Sutton], she hands him a cassette tape and unexpectedly kisses him. José, remaining steadfast in his feelings for Cristina, gently declines her romantic advances, leading them to agree to stay friends while brushing off the incident.

José decides to give the cassette tape to Cristina as a gift, which she happily accepts. As their bond strengthens, he forms a soccer team, eagerly participating in a school tournament to impress Cristina. During a casual moment at school, Cristina allows Kenji to listen to the cassette. His disinterest in rock music sparks tension when he learns that José was the one who gifted it to her. This leads to an intense confrontation in the bathroom where they make a bet: the winner of the tournament will keep Cristina, while the loser must never speak to her again. However, José’s team suffers a crushing defeat in the finals.

Frustrated by the outcome, José accuses Kenji of cheating, prompting Kenji to challenge him to a fight after school for Cristina’s honor. Although Cristina urges José against the fight, he feels compelled to defend her honor. Ultimately, the fight culminates with José throwing dirt at Kenji, who retaliates with a punch that sends José crashing to the ground. When Cristina hurries over to check on him, their feelings ignite as they share a kiss.

As weeks pass, an ice skating outing with Cristina reveals her growing frustration when José admits he may have feelings for Liliana. Hurt by his confession, Cristina slaps him and storms off. Attempting to mend his feelings, José brings flowers to Liliana, only to discover her in a passionate embrace with Kenji. Despite confessing his feelings for her, Liliana turns him down. Adding to his turmoil, José learns from his father that they are moving away.

Meanwhile, Cristina and Liliana bond over music at school. As José approaches them, he bravely admits that he loves both of them. In the end, as his family drives toward their new home, they make a pit stop, during which he encounters another girl passionately hitting baseballs, leaving him with a flutter in his heart. The film concludes as the credits roll, offering glimpses into the unfolding lives of José and his friends.
