Six months after the first encounter with Ginnie’s estranged father, Frank Gallo, Martin finds himself at the door with a pressing need to help. Frank has been trying to get in touch with Ginnie, who has gone silent for ten days, not responding to his calls, texts, or emails. Although Martin and Ginnie had ended their relationship three months prior, he still harbors feelings for her and is reluctant to deal with his troublesome roommate. Hence, he agrees to assist Frank on this quest to locate Ginnie.
Following Ginnie’s departure from Martin, she ended up living with Gary and Roberta. Unfortunately, when Frank and Martin visit their home, they discover that Ginnie has moved out due to Gary's inappropriate behavior. To their dismay, neither Gary nor Roberta can find the note with her new address. Frustrated but undeterred, Frank and Martin decide to check out Ginnie’s workplace. They arrive at the café where Ginnie used to work, only to learn she has quit for a job at an upscale restaurant in West Hollywood. However, their luck does not improve, as they soon find out that she no longer works there either, having left the position two weeks earlier.
In a last-ditch attempt to track her down, they visit a club she frequents, where Frank discovers from a bartender that Ginnie has started dating someone new. An altercation breaks out between Frank and this new boyfriend, Trevor, prompting them to depart from the club. As they step outside, they notice Ginnie's friend, Megan, who appears to be attempting to drive under the influence. They offer to give her a ride home, whereupon Martin learns yet more about Ginnie’s new boyfriend.
Still oblivious to the identity of this new partner, Martin shares his insecurities about his past relationship with Ginnie while at a bar with Frank. It’s there that they unexpectedly run into Gary, who is embroiled in his own drama with Roberta. As the night progresses, Gary inadvertently reveals that the hallucinogenic mushrooms he carries in his wallet come wrapped in the very paper that holds Ginnie’s new address.
Their journey takes a more dramatic turn when they arrive at Gina’s new apartment, and no one answers the door. In a moment of desperation, Frank breaks in, while Martin, feeling distressed over Frank’s hesitance to reach out to Ginnie’s mother, decides to make the call himself. Ginnie’s mother informs Martin that Ginnie is currently away on vacation with her new boyfriend, Kip. As Martin rushes back inside to share the news with Frank, they encounter Ginnie’s new roommate, who is less than pleased with their intrusion and chases them off with a knife, ultimately calling the police.
Their misadventures culminate in their arrest, while a carefree Ginnie returns home from her vacation with Kip. Inside their jail cell, Frank admits to Martin that he had a panic attack ten days earlier, the catalyst for his search for Ginnie, as he feels he has no one else. Once released, Frank attempts to reconcile with Ginnie, makes a long-overdue call to his ex-wife, and finally meets Kip. Martin, on his part, expresses genuine happiness for Ginnie’s new relationship, evicts his roommate Jimothy, and dedicates time to practice for an upcoming banjo performance with his band.
In a touching finale, Martin takes to the stage with his band, with Frank proudly watching from the audience. During the intermission, a significant bonding moment occurs as Martin finally addresses Frank by his first name. Frank encourages Martin to pursue time with his own budding love interest, Lois, heralding the closing of one chapter and the opening of another.
