A former Asia resident who once shared tea with the Dalai Lama, he worked with Chinese scientists, officials and farmers to promote organic, small‑scale cultivation. By 2004 his efforts produced farmer collectives, boutique‑tea exports and growing Chinese respect for organic practices and the earthworm.
