On his family's Iowa farm, Jack Gudmanson struggles with his sexual identity in a traditionally masculine Midwestern setting. He discovers a rusted lunch box filled with gay magazines, revealing that his Vietnam‑dead father led a secret double life on the farm. The revelation frees Jack but hurts his mother and grandfather, who have guarded the secret for years. Jack must decide whether to share the truth with his younger sister or keep it buried.
